How to Cleanse & Charge your Crystals

Shelby Apodaca

I have been thinking for a long time that I needed to put up on the website somewhere, information about how to cleanse and charge your crystals. this is such an important part of working with crystals (even just personal use.)

The way crystals work, is they work off their energy as well as everyone and everything around them. there are specific ones that pull in certain energies such as stress or negativity etc.. These ones need to be cleansed more often, than others.

Now Charging your crystals is just as important, you want them to be able to give you all these wondrous healing vibes, but they need to take some time to rest and charge back up so they can be at their very best for you. So remember! CLEANSE AND CHARGE!

Now onto the “How Toʼs” :

Cleansing:

1. Sunlight

2. Moonlight

3. Smudging - Sage or Palo Santo let the smoke dance around the rocks

4. Running Water

5. Salt (I donʼt recommend this unless you do extensive research on the types of crystals you are working with)

Charging:

1. Sunlight

2. Moonlight

3. Quartz Crystal

4. White light

Now keep in mind there are certain types of crystals that donʼt respond well to certain ways of cleansing or charging.

For example : Amethyst is sensitive to sunlight, so if itʼs left in direct sunlight for long periods of time the color will drain from the stone.

If you use Salt as a way of cleansing, be aware that this can damage your stones if they arenʼt meant to be cared for in this particular manner.

Other crystals such as Selenite or Turquoise, those crystals canʼt be put in water, it will more than likely make them fall apart.

So make sure you do your research on your crystals before you pick a specific way of cleansing and charging.
Here is just a small list I pulled together for you:

No Water:

1. Angelite

2. Turquoise

3. Kunzite

4. Selenite

5. Kyanite

No Sunlight:

1. Aventurine

2. Amethyst

3. Aquamarine

4. Beryl

5. Citrine

6. Kunzite

7. Sapphires

8. Fluorite

9. Rose Quartz

10. Smoky Quartz

If you do choose to use the sunlight method, make sure the crystal is only in the sun for a short period of time.

Do you want to know something that shocked me when I first began studying crystals? Some of them donʼt ever need to be cleansed or charged! Say what?

No Cleansing Needed:

1. Kyanite

2. Citrine

3. Azulite

4. Diamond &. Phenakite

5. Apophylite

So basically what I personally do with my crystals is I leave them on a table outside in the sun for about 4-6 hours, that might be too much time for the amethysts, but I personally havenʼt had a problem with it. When the time comes and I have a window where the moonlight hits, I will set them out in the moonlight instead. I feel like the moon energy is more intense.

How often should you cleanse your crystals? Honestly? When you feel like you need to do this, then do it! Always trust your gut, the crystals will tell you when they need it.

However if youʼre more the type of person that needs to know EXACTLY how often, then I would say your safest bet is every full moon. Unless you have been more stressed, or around more negativity then usual. You donʼt want that crystal giving you back those icky vibes that they worked so hard to take away for you.

So take care of your crystals, because they love to take care of you!
